The Greene County varsity football team spoiled homecoming for Des Moines Christian Friday night as they pummeled the Lions 55-0.
The Rams ran rampant over the Lion defense in racking up 411 yards on the ground. Senior Jackson Morton enjoyed a big night as he scored four touchdowns in the second half on runs of 11, 15, one and 26 yards. Morton also caught four passes for 42 yards.
Senior Nathan Black scored on runs of six and two yards. Senior quarterback Bryce Stalder had a one-yard sneak for a score.
The Ram defense scored a touchdown when senior middle linebacker Bradyn Smith picked up a fumble at the Lions’ six-yard line and charged into the end zone.
Greene County rolled to 467 yards of offense with 56 in the air and 411 on the ground. Morton picked up 114 yards on eight carries. Black ran 16 times for 86 yards; Stalder, 11 carries for 80 yards; Patrick Daugherty, four carries for 78 yards; Richard Daugherty, one rush for 19 yards and Gavin Scheuermann, two rushes for 34 yards.
Stalder completed six out of nine passes for 56 yards. Morton was the target for four aerials for 42 yards. R Daugherty caught a 16-yard pass while a toss to Jesse Miller lost two yards.
The Ram defense was solid, holding the Lions to 79 yards. Greene County sacked the quarterback nine times. Leading the Ram defense were Daniel Rivera, Morton, Miller, Smith and Michael Rumley. Rivera and Morton had four solo tackles, 4.5 total; Miller (three QB sacks), Rumley (2.5 QB sacks) and Smith, two solo, four total, two QB sacks.
Other contributors were: P Daugherty, two solo, 3.5 total; Gabe Ebersole, one solo, three total; Cody Allen, 2.5 tackles, QB sack; Blake Hamman, two solo, 2.5 total, 1.5 QB sacks; R Daugherty, two solo; Stalder, Trey Schilling and John Sprague, 1.5 tackles; Max Riley and Caden Telleen, one; Brenner Gallagher and Kamden Kinne, one assisted tackle.
Richard Daugherty picked off a Lion pass and returned it 10 yards. He also fielded three punt returns for 41 yards.
Nathan Behne kicked off four times for 208 yards and booted seven out of eight PAT attempts. Black kicked off five times for 254 yards. Rivera returned a Lion kickoff for five yards. Black punted once for 37 yards.
Greene County boosted their record to 3-1 while the Lions fell to 1-3.
The Rams hit the road to southern Iowa Friday where they take on Clarinda in a Class 2A District 8 matchup. The Cardinals are 1-3 on the season.
